Environmentally responsible waste disposal
|
 |
We have
set ourselves the goal of avoiding waste altogether, or recycling
it fully. This is especially helpful to the environment: fewer resources
are consumed; air, soil and water are not polluted.
However, this is not always possible. When we decommission and break
up old plants, problematic waste is generated. Our goal then is to
extract as much recyclable material as possible and dispose of the
remainder in a proper manner.
In recent years we decommissioned and dismantled the following plants
before disposing of the waste materials in an environmentally responsible
way:
  |
Dresden Nossener Brücke combined heat and
power plant |
  |
Dresden Central heat plant |
  |
Dresden Cotta combined heat and power plant |
  |
Dresden Marienallee heat plant |
  |
Dresden Tolkewitz heat plant |
  |
Dresden Leuben heat plant |
Depending on their pollutant content, we divide the materials
into waste requiring special supervision and waste not requiring special
supervision. In 2000 we disposed of 8,889 tonnes of waste. The proportion
of waste requiring special supervision amounted to 6,892 tonnes. This
proportion will fall significantly once the modernisation work is
completed.
